Martha R. Bagley, Esquire


Prior to founding Bagley & Taranto, Attorney Bagley practiced law with her father Ralph at Bagley & Bagley, P.C. in Boston gaining experience in all Courts of the Commonwealth. During those fourteen years, she earned a reputation in the legal community as a skilled litigator and proficient researcher and writer.

Attorney Bagley focuses her practice in the area of probate and family law and has successfully represented hundreds of clients in their matrimonial, estate and custody matters. In addition to private clients, Attorney Bagley frequently advises and provides attorneys consultation on trial advocacy and evidentiary issues. She is admitted to practice in all Courts of the Commonwealth and has experience in oral advocacy before the Probate Court, US District Court, Superior Court and the Massachusetts Appeals Court.

Attorney Bagley has lectured at Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, New England Law and in 2005 became a member of the University of Oxford Round Table in recognition of her study and writing on women’s rights and her lecture on family law.

An active member of the bar, Attorney Bagley serves on the Executive Committee of the Boston Inn of Court, is a Manager of the Boston Port and Seamen’s Aid Society, a director of the Scholarship Committee of the Massachusetts Assoc. of Women Lawyers, and is a member of the Boston, Essex, and Salem Bar Associations, as well as the Massachusetts Association of Trial Lawyers. She also serves as a Corporator at East Boston Savings Bank and is a Director of the Meridian Charitable Foundation.

From 2005 to 2008 Attorney Bagley was a member of the Board of Editors at Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly and has been also published in the Women’s Business Journal and Purchasing Today magazine.

Attorney Bagley received her BA from Boston College in 1985, a Graduate Certificate in Government from Boston College in 1988 and her JD from New England Law in 1994.


Thomas Taranto, Esquire


Prior to founding Bagley & Taranto, P.C., Attorney Taranto was involved in private business, becoming a National Sales Manager of a major national corporation at a young age. He later went on to start his own business which he successfully managed for 25 years. While attending law school evenings, he continued to operate the business. And after successfully passing the bar, he started the Law Offices of Thomas Taranto in 1996 practicing in the areas of Family Law and Civil Law Litigation. Educated in both business and well as the law, he acquired valuable negotiating skills, managing people during crisis situations, analyzed financial statements and other business documents.

Attorney Taranto’s philosophy, to protect clients at a time when they are most vulnerable is complemented by his effective listening and professionalism creating an atmosphere conducive to creative and reasoned disposition of cases. However, when disputes can not be resolved, he brings those skills into the court room as an accomplished trial lawyer having successfully tried both jury cases in the Superior Court as well as bench trials in the Probate and Family Court.

Attorney Taranto is admitted to practice in all Courts in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He is an active member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, both the Family Law and Civil Litigation sections, Essex and Salem Bar Associations, Massachusetts Academy of Trial Lawyers, and is a Certified Alterative Dispute Conciliator.

In addition to professional associations, he has devoted countless hours to coaching children’s sports, teaching religious education and most recently providing technical guidance to the Marblehead High School Mock Trial Team.

Attorney Taranto received his B.S. in Finance graduating cum laude from Boston College in 1975, and his JD from the Massachusetts School of Law in 1996.

News & Announcements

Attorney Taranto’s technical expertise assisted the Marblehead High School Mock Trial Team to the North East Regional Championship! This was the first time the Team reached that level in the competition and we look forward to next year’s competition.

Attorney Taranto is involved in litigation pursuing claims of fraud, breach of contract and unfair business practices against the seller of a radio station.

Attorney Bagley is a faculty member at Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education teaching evidence. Recognized as a leader in utilizing the rules of evidence, Attorney Bagley will be lecturing on cross examination techniques, direct examination of witnesses and the Massachusetts Guide to Evidence which was recently published by the Supreme Judicial Court.

On April 28, 2009, Attorney Bagley was elected Trustee of Meridian Financial Services, Inc., the parent company of East Boston Savings Bank. Founded in 1848, East Boston Savings Bank has had a long relationship with Bagley attorneys and Martha is the third generation to serve as a Trustee. Attorney Bagley also serves as a Corporator and a member of the Meridian Charitable Foundation.
